Too many people just sit and let life pass them by! I don’t want to do that! Tuesday, February 06, I don’t want to date a man with kids So far in my limited dating experience, the two biggest dating dealbreakers for me have been: I’ve received a very mixed reaction to my decision not to go out on a second date with a seemingly good guy and super cute!

The first thing I should mention is that I love kids at least the good ones! So my reason for not dating a guy with kids has nothing to do with disliking children. In fact, it’s the opposite! I think my decision to not date someone with kids is fortified by the fact that I want my own children. Truth be told, I’m not good at sharing! I’m fine with giving, providing, nurturing, but really deep down, I’m not good at sharing.

But I couldn’t ignore my child. By Cathy Byrd as told to Maria Carter Apr 4, Kids say some peculiar things and, as parents, we usually don’t give it much thought. I was the same in this regard until my 2-year-old son’s bizarre statements on a trip to Boston’s Fenway Park clued me in on the bigger picture.

However, I know lots of people on both professional and personal levels but not a single individual from these groups EVER asks to include me in anything they do. I have often felt that the Gods hated me and that I am being punished for something I did in a former life. If someone took an interest in me, it was generally to get something from me. The next day I was the fat kid again and those who attended threw rocks at me on the playground.

Events like this plagued my childhood until I gave-up at the age of 13 and didn’t care anymore. Where was my family in all this? Well, my mother was busy working and when after-school rolled around I had toys thrown at me as a substitute for her attention and love. After a long day at work, she needed space. Thusly, this resulted in her not seeing my lonliness nor my lack of friends in general. During school vacations she would tell yell at me to go outside and play with my friends.

So, I wandered about the neighborhood alone with my thoughts and doing nothing.

My brilliant year-old son is much smarter than I will ever be; he’s respectful, considerate and patient; and he gets along extremely well with adults and with my two younger sons. These boys are very social creatures and have many, many friends, but the year-old has never had a single friend, even in preschool. I’ve joined play groups, set up play dates and befriended the moms whose children might make good friends for my son, but to no avail.

He always seemed like a happy kid anyway, but today he came clean. He said that he feels like an alien when he travels the halls of his new middle school and that he doesn’t have anyone to talk to at lunch. If he tries to talk to the other kids, they either ignore him or just give him a polite nod. It is so odd to have a son who is an invisible kid, especially since he is an outgoing boy who loves acting and isn’t meek at all, although I’ve seen him interact with kids his age and he is very awkward with them.

I tell him there is bound to be another “invisible kid” sitting alone at lunch and feeling the same way he does and that they just have to find each other. That still hasn’t happened, but when I encouraged him to keep looking, he said this makes him feel like a failure. Friendship seems to come so naturally to everyone else, he says, but not to him.

He also says he is happy by himself and doesn’t know if he’d be happier having friends because he has never had any but that he feels as if he should have friends. But after my son said all that, he went on a field trip, where he and another boy happily played hangman all afternoon.

Staying single for quite a long time does not necessarily mean that there is a substantial problem since some people decide to be single for some personal reasons. It is more than normal for men as early as 16 years to start showing interest in girls.

Once that age has been passed by time almost two times, the great dilemma arises. The greatest risk any parent is running is that thought of the son being a homosexual. The society too is not at peace having such a person. See more effective parenting tips Reasons why some men have no interest in girls Different people have various reasons for staying single. Some men feel they are too young to be committed in a relationship. That fear of being obsessed with partners of the opposite sex drives many out of a healthy relationship.
